Our journey through Texas to witness a rare total solar eclipse with Professor Mike Brown featured cultural and geological highlights. Points of interest on our itinerary included a tasting at Zilker Brewing Company in Austin, Natural Bridge Caverns, Mission San José National Historic Park, and The Alamo.

We experienced hidden treasures of Italian libraries and historic locations, including a private tour of the Vatican Museum and facilities dedicated to the history and future of scientific research.
A spring adventure to Jackson, Wyoming, with Professor Brian Wernicke, included a hot-air balloon ride over Grand Teton National Park, a float down the storied Snake River, wildlife sightings, and a day trip experience the geothermal wonders of Yellowstone National Park.
A trip to majestic, remote Antarctica is truly the journey of a lifetime. With our faculty guide, Professor Andrew Thompson, we explored an exhilarating landscape, navigated among towering icebergs, and were greeted by the friendliest of penguins.
This thrilling adventure with Michael Lamb, Caltech professor of geology, took us on a journey 188 miles down the Colorado River through the magnificent Grand Canyon. We navigated calm waters and Class V rapids and spent our evenings gazing at the stars.
Our excursion in the Netherlands showcased the sciences, arts, and architecture. From our base in vibrant and historic Amsterdam, we enjoyed day trips to Rotterdam and Kinderdijk with our faculty guide Paul Wennberg, Caltech's R. Stanton Avery Professor of Atmospheric Chemistry and Environmental Science and Engineering.

Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) and Paranal Observatory.
We witnessed a rare total solar eclipse in Oregon with faculty guides Mike Brown, the Caltech Richard and Barbara Rosenberg Professor of Planetary Astronomy, and Paul Asimow, the Eleanor and John R. McMillan Professor of Geology and Geochemistry. After the eclipse, we toured wild and urban hotspots in the vicinity of Portland.
Our fall 2016 trip to Andalucía, Spain, with Nicolas Wey-Gomez, professor of history, included tours of Grenada’s Alhambra, the Palacio de Generalife, and the Plaza de Toros de Ronda, taking the stunning views at Puente Neuvo, and a visit to the art restoration laboratories at the Instituto Andaluz del Patrimonio Histórico at the Monasterio de la Cartuja in Seville.
Faculty guides Rana Adhikari, professor of physics, and Yanbei Chen, professor of physics, accompanied us to the fascinating Hanford, Washington, detector site of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory. We also visited the B Reactor at the Manhattan Project National Historical Park and took in the scenery of the Columbia River.
