Ken Hargreaves, Caltech's assistant vice president for strategy implementation, has been appointed as the Institute's External Relations Officer (ERO), effective immediately.
As ERO, Hargreaves will maintain and cultivate relationships, direct activity, and represent Caltech with federal, state, regional, and local elected officials and government agencies. Hargreaves will also act as the primary collaborator with the Institute's Washington, D.C. colleagues, Lewis-Burke Associates, and is charged with coordinating advocacy activities on behalf of campus and JPL. In addition, Ken will continue to support select strategic initiatives across the Institute and manage the Campus Event Productions group.
"I'm excited to start this next chapter of my career at Caltech and look forward to working with the campus community to enhance relationships with external stakeholders and advance the Institute's mission," Hargreaves says.
During the 10 years Hargreaves has been at Caltech, he has worked on a broad range of Institute efforts, including oversight of the design and construction group within Facilities. He has served both as Caltech's institutional research officer, and as the assistant vice president for strategy implementation. Most recently, he has served as the acting ERO, maintaining Caltech's deep ties with Washington, D.C., fostering closer partnerships with colleagues in JPL's office of legislative and government affairs, enhancing the Institute's relationship with the state legislature and agencies, and continuing to partner closely with the City of Pasadena.
Prior to joining Caltech, Ken held leadership positions in the U.S. Navy and at the Los Angeles Unified School District. He holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and a master's degree in environmental science and engineering from the University of Florida, as well as an MBA from the University of West Florida.
