Associates Overnight at South Coast Winery and
Trip to Palomar Observatory
Saturday, April 25, 2009 – Sunday, April 26, 2009

With Dr. Michael Brown,
Richard and Barbara Rosenberg Professor and professor of planetary astronomy

Join the Associates and noted Caltech astronomer Dr. Michael Brown, for a luncheon and optional wine and olive oil tasting, followed by a trip to Palomar Observatory for tours, dinner and a program. We will be staying at South Coast Winery Resort and Spa on Saturday night, April 25, 2009. A limited number of rooms are available on Friday, April 24, 2009 and on Sunday April 26, 2009 for those who wish to go early or stay later.

Friday, April 24: Optional Day (see reservation form)

Saturday, April 25: Meet at South Coast Winery in Temecula. Check in time is not until 4:00 p.m., but some rooms may be available for early check in, and luggage can be delivered to your room while we are at the Observatory.

11:30 a.m.       Luncheon

12:45 p.m.       Optional wine tasting and tour of South Coast Winery’s vineyards and olive oil tasting with Temecula Olive Oil Company at an additional $25 per person

2:00 p.m.         Bus departs for Palomar Observatory

3:30 p.m.         Welcome at Museum and Gift Shop at the Observatory

4:00 p.m.         Tour of Observatory grounds and the 200-inch Hale Telescope

5:20 p.m.         Dinner & Program under the 200-inch Dome

7:00 p.m.         Tours of the 60-inch telescope and other astronomical facilities at Palomar

8:30 p.m.         Return to South Coast Winery (estimated arrival 10:00 p.m.)

Sunday, April 26: Breakfast buffet available between 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. for trip participants. Guests have the option of spending Sunday night at a discounted rate (see reservation form)

Reservation includes: Lunch on Saturday and Saturday night accommodations at South Coast Winery, Resort and Spa, transportation to Palomar and back, dinner and the program at Palomar, and breakfast buffet on Sunday.           

Cost: $450 per person, double occupancy       $595 per person, single occupancy

Dress: Comfortable shoes and pants. Tour involves stairs and some walking. It may become quite cold and windy in the evening so layers of clothing are recommended.

Elevation: Palomar Observatory is at an elevation of 5,500 feet.
